HEQ5 Saddle Upgrade

HEQ5 Saddle Upgrade

Postby johnrt » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:26 pm

I'm considering upgrading the saddle plate on my HEQ5 to either the Altair or ADM dual saddle (both take vixen & losmandy). I'm quite close to (if not a little over) my limit with the 6"RC & guide scope on the mount and would hope to get an improvement in stability.

Has anyone else performed a similar upgrade to their HEQ5 or 6? Was it worth the investment, did you see an improvement in the performance of the mount?

Thanks

John

Hi John I upgraded the saddle on my old heq5 with one of the Altair astro dual saddles and it made a big difference to stability for me and would definiately recommend the Altair saddle

I now use the saddle on my eq6 the colour is nice as well :)
Some old glass and a metal tube

All we ever see of stars are their old photographs

Excellent, that's the news I was hoping for. I have a couple of other bits of Altair hardware on my rig, how lovelly if it ALL matched - must resist, must resist!!!!

Could you link me to the saddle upgrade John? I like the sound of that!! I am definately at the overweight end for my HEQ5 (much like me!!!) as I reckon I have about 10-11 kgs on there. If something like this improves performance, not that it's bad, but every bit helps right?!

Here you go Sara, you'll need to select the HEQ5 puck in the drop down menu at the bottom of the page too.

Sounds like its all settled on the Altair Astro version but i upgraded my HEQ5, Skytee 2 and CG5 with the ADM dual fit saddle:

Works very well and a big improvement but just plain jane black. I've seen Jake's EQ6 with all the Altair bling and it looks awesome.
