Welcome Pete and further thanks to every-one else who has greeted me.

Matt send me a PM where we can discuss Exterminator more fully. I am now going back to all my previous images and giving them the Exterminator "once over".

Hi Carole

You've probably realised this already, but re-visitng images once you've learnt a new technique happens quite a bit in this hobby. For some of my images I think I'm on the 5th or 6th re-do. Good thing is - in this fair country of ours, there's plenty of bad weather, giving us lots of time to re-do images - LOL.

I remembered that we have a link on the forum to a great set of tutorials by the Waid Observatory - see:
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1687

This also has a very good tutorial on GradX (it's where I learnt how to use it effectively) - see:
http://www.waidobservatory.com/tutorial ... erminator/

If you get stuck - give me a shout. Enjoy.
Cheers
Matt

OK. M51 re-reprocess using Gradient Exterminator as suggested by Matt above

Also went back to my M42 image of 31.1.10 (see first post) and reprocessed using a few new tips I've picked up recently and also used some subs I got in November (unguided) to try to reduce the over exposure core.

Carole,
The background looks better on your M51

The Orion nebula looks a bit green - this thread has a link to another great tool, for getting rid of the green:
