This problem is a real mystery to me. It came at me out of the blue, I have done nothing recently to cause an upset. Whilst using Outlook Express the same way I have been using it for years it constantly failed to download all the mail. Renewed attempts just gave me a repeat of the same two mails. This is always followed by an error message to the effect that the server terminated the connection but none of the possible reasons given fit.
I finally cured the e-mail problem but don't know how. Today it is not working again on two different computers so it is not them at fault. To my addled brain it points to the server? Anti virus is on both of them, Kaspersky on the desk top and AVG on the laptop.
My main computer is not connecting to the internet anymore, I am doing this on my laptop using the same BB connection and router. When I try to connect with my trusty computer (XP SP3, IE7, Outlook v6 I think, 2004. Yes, I know its old but it works. Or it did) it just crashes IE.
So, when I try to connect my main computer to the internet it presents me with the Google home page, or tries to, but then before the screen is fully painted it crashes and leaves me with the desk top view. It does not crash if the router is disconnected. My laptop (same as the main desktop) uses the same connection without a problem.
I did re-install IE7 but it made no difference. I might try uninstalling it and installing IE8 but that was when the internet trouble first started. When trying to sort out Outlook It was suggested that my system needs updatin (how dare they?) so IE8 went on and the internet packed up.
At least with the same e-mail problem on two computers I am saved (?) from doing a complete re-format.
